Catalogue of the exhibition PUNK. Its Traces in Contemporary Art, co-published by the Regional Ministry of Employment, Tourism and Culture, General Direction of Fine Arts, Books and Archives of the Regional Government of Madrid, and Álava Provincial Council. Punk emerged as an explosion at the end of the 1970s. Musicians, artists, designers, activists, and disheartened youths responded with rage to the social, cultural, and economic crisis of the age. Echoes of Dadaism and Situationism could be heard in this rage. But the noise of punk has continued. It is one of the cultural references of the twentieth century that has left the most traces. In art too. The reasons that lead to dissatisfaction, nonconformism, loss of faith in progress, and ferocious criticism of the icons of the economic and social system still prevail and are intrinsic to the practice of many artists. PUNK. Its traces in Contemporary Art records its impact on today’s artists: in noise and anti-design; in negation; as a violent, nihilistic, and anarchic reference; as the practice of do-it yourself; and as a way of accepting sexual diversity.
Catalogue of the exhibition Night shift. Fermín Jiménez Landa, published by Artium of Alava. In the actions, public interventions, videos, installations and drawings he produces, Fermín Jiménez Landa explores processes of equivalence, inversion or exchange, contemplating the world from a point midway between the absurd and the sensible, the familiar and the iconoclastic, the empirical and the unverifiable. Night shift shows all these notions.
