The core work of this exhibition is the documentary collection of the artist Néstor Basterretxea (Bermeo, 1924-Hondarribia, 2014), which was donated to the museum by his family in 2023. The show has been designed as an approach to this figure through his writings, photographs, letters, film projects, public works projects, pamphlets and articles, among others. The exhibition project recognises the importance of preserving the identity and integrity of each documentation item, while simultaneously seeking to activate its potential as a source of inspiration and knowledge.
This documentary exhibition on Basterretxea coincides with the centenary of the artist’s birth, and it seeks to celebrate his life, his work and his legacy while providing new perspectives and opportunities to continue exploring his fascinating creative universe.
On the occasion of the opening the museum will host the audiovisual program Néstor Basterretxea y la imagen.
