The ARTIUM Library and Documentation Centre is a dynamic entity encouraging artistic research and analysis within the field of contemporary art and culture and promoting the organisation and programming of cultural outreach activities.
A key element in its management is the establishment of good communication with users by making them participate in the various products and services that it creates.
The library promotes various services and programmes cultural outreach activities in order to disseminate its collections, cooperate with other centres and be more accessible to users by making them participate in its projects.
You can learn more about these and other initiatives here.

World Book Day
Coinciding with the celebration of World Book Day, on 23 April, the Artium Library and Documentation Centre is encouraging the promotion of reading and the diffusion of contemporary culture by scheduling various activities, such as BookCrossing, shared readings, bibliographical exhibitions and concerts, among others.
Bookcrossing
In 2008, the ARTIUM Library and Documentation Centre launched the BookCrossing programme to support the promotion and dissemination of reading and contemporary culture.
Consequently, to coincide with World Book Day, the library releases art books yearly at emblematic points throughout the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz and in different places throughout the world. Tracking these released books is done through the library’s virtual bookshelf at the official Bookcrossing website.
Since 2009, on World Book Day, every 23 April, the library promotes and coordinates the participation of national and international centres and museums in a joint release of books.
In 2012, the ARTIUM Library became an Official BookCrossing Zone. A specific area was set up in the entrance hall of the centre-museum where books are continuously available for hunting or releasing. An informational sign beside them provides instructions on what to do with the books.

Seminars
Since 2002, ARTIUM has organised Encounters between Contemporary Art Archive Departments on a two-yearly basis. This is a forum for debate and exchange of knowledge about the work done by these entities and their prospects for the future.
These seminars provide an opportunity to analyse new documentary supports and the effect new technologies are having on documentation centres, as well as the changes these technologies are bringing about in the development of the activities of these centres.
