Artium Museum and Tabakalera present 'Una voluntad de ceder', a project to highlight the work processes developed in the JAI study programme

JAI was held in Tabakalera last July and August with the participation of ten artists. The programme’s teaching staff comprised professionals from different backgrounds capable of transmitting practical knowledge about their work processes

Artium, Basque Museum-Centre of Contemporary Art and Tabakalera, International Centre of Contemporary Culture present JAI. Una voluntad de ceder (JAI. A Willingness To Give, Gallery A4, Lantegia, until 20 December 2020). The exhibition in Artium aims to highlight the work processes developed by the artists who participated in the study programme held in Tabakalera in July and August. The JAI (Jardun Artistikoen Institutua / Institute of Artistic Practices) study programme involved professionals from very different backgrounds capable of identifying the potential of artistic practice to look at the contemporary world and establish a critical relationship on the use of its languages. The show that is set to open in the Museum brings together the works of the ten participating artists.

JAI (Jardun Artistikoen Institutua/Artistic Practices Institut) was held from 1 July to 28 August in the Creators’ Space on the third floor of Tabakalera and is now in a second public phase in gallery A4 of Artium Museum. JAI is a study programme set up by Artium and Tabakalera involving professionals among its teaching staff from extremely different backgrounds capable of identifying the potential of artistic practice to look at the contemporary world and establish a critical relationship on the use of its languages.

JAI revolves around the same question posed to each of the guest teachers in this project: what practical knowledge defining your work process can you transmit to others? The answer to this question admits a specific methodology in each case and the sum of these answers, in the form of exercises and workshops, comprises the educational programme that was developed over the weeks of work.

As the artist explain in the poster edited for the project, "This space is not the end of a process. It is not an exhibition of what has been. Rather than a destination, it is a space to dwell: to reside for a brief time, to reflect on continuously, to desire, to be lost. (...) What appears in this room might be described as the skin of a dragon held up by many bodies".

Artists that have given themselves to JAI: Akane Saraiva, Antonio Menchen, Cecile Brousse, Charlotte Nordgren Sewell, Diego Diez, Izaro Ieregi, Ibon Landa, Jara Navarlaz, Mikel Escobales, Rocío Agudo.

Artists that have held JAI: Asier Mendizabal, Ibon Aranberri, Itziar Okariz.

Invited artists that answered JAI: Camila Sposati, Kobe Matthys-Agency, Diedrich Diederichsen, Jon Mikel Euba, June Crespo, Katinka Bock / Thomas Boutoux, Lili Reynaud Dewar, Zbyněk Baladrán.
